Natural and Organic Cosmetics Are Perfect For Your Skin

Our environment has most often been neglected by the people for many reasons. For making use of chemicals, for ruthlessly spoiling the environment, we have spent a lot of years. But today is the time to make up for whatever harm we have done to our environment and also to make up to our body for a healthy future. It is good to be aware of the products that we use and consume on our bodies. Natural cosmetics or organic cosmetics are the best suited cosmetics for all the skin types and the fact that they don’t contain any chemicals acts as a spicing on the cake. People prefer buying products which they can be sure of and trust blindly without any hassles. Organic cosmetics are products are being used all over the world despite the fact that they are a little expensive but who minds paying a little extra for an assurance which can also be termed as skin insurance.

As a matter of fact, the industry of natural cosmetics is on a high rise as compared to the traditional cosmetics industry with as much as five times higher momentum. Basically there are two main reasons for such a bloom seen in the organic cosmetics and natural cosmetics industry, one is the understanding of the people towards the importance of incorporating eco friendly products in our lives and the other is the awakening of the consumers towards the chemicals present in the traditional cosmetics with synthetic ingredients and their despise of such products. Another reason which can be considered responsible for the sudden boom in the natural cosmetics industry is the rising popularity of the organic food in the past few years which is actually enabling a healthier lifestyle with products like organic food, organic clothes, organic furniture and organic cosmetics.

Many cosmetic brands are incorporating these natural and organic cosmetics into their lines and shops. People prefer to buy natural products as compared to the synthetic ones especially because of the fact that they can cause many skin ailments in the future. These days, there is work being done to devise guidelines for the stipulating what constitutes a natural product. There used to be a certification program earlier during the year which used to give certificates to the products which used to meet certain requirements. These days many big names and brands are snapping up organic brands just for the simple reason of the money these natural products are making.

There are so many benefits of these natural and organic cosmetics, no wonder people wish to use them despite the fact that they cost a little extra. Many traditional cosmetics promote allergies to the users or skin infections and rashes but these organic cosmetics and natural cosmetics are completely allergy free products. Thus they add a glow to the skin and provide healthier skin. The traditional cosmetics contain aluminum particles which tend to clog the pores of the skin whereas these natural cosmetics act as exfoliating agents and cleanse the pores of the skin.

Treat Yourself to a Natural Make-Over

When it comes to cosmetics there are very few women who can say that they do not use at least one product in order to help enhance their natural beauty. However, the products that they do use are usually not very natural themselves. The majority of cosmetics sold today are largely made of petroleum derivatives and synthetics.

Many women do not even realize that there are more natural cosmetic alternatives available. Other women who are interested in natural cosmetics buy into marketing hype about a product being “natural”, or “chemical free” and never look beyond the advertisement to read the actual ingredient label. Unfortunately, there is no regulation in the US around the phrase “natural cosmetics”. The words “natural cosmetics” or “botanical cosmetics” paint a picture of a certain kind of product free of specific dyes (like FD&C and Lake), specific preservatives (like paraben preservatives) as well as other fillers. In the majority of cases, the reality of these products couldn’t be farther from the truth. One needs only to look beyond the marketing to the actual ingredient label to find the whole story.

Many women continue to use chemical and synthetic based cosmetics which could potentially be damaging their skin and bodies. So, just what are natural cosmetics and why should you give yourself a natural makeover?

Why Give Yourself a Natural Makeover?

Since no formal definition of the term “natural cosmetics” exists, you may generally consider a natural cosmetic as one in which the great majority if not all the ingredients are of natural and not synthetic origin. The next time that you put your make-up on or take part in your daily skin care routine, look at the labels on your products. Now most of the time you will not be able to pronounce, much less understand the majority of the ingredients listed. Most ingredients in the average skin care or color cosmetic are full of unpronounceable synthetic chemicals. These chemicals can dry out or potentially damage our skin. When absorbed into the skin over time many of the chemicals used in common skin care and cosmetics are thought to have long-term effects on our health.

The non-profit organization, Campaign for Safe Cosmetics reports that of these approximately 10,500 ingredients used in cosmetics, only 11% of them have ever been tested for safety. In addition, the European Union has already banned the use and sale of 1,100 of these ingredients while the US has only banned NINE! With so many chemicals, and so little regulation and testing in the US about their effects on the body, why risk it? Give yourself and your bathroom a natural make-over!

Natural Product Selection

1. Look beyond the marketing at actual ingredient labels. As you use more natural products you will find that the ingredient labels are shorter and easier to understand.
2. Search online for ‘safe cosmetics’ to find a list of cosmetic companies that pledge to use safer ingredient alternatives.
3. Inform yourself about key ingredients to avoid. You can find a list of ingredients to avoid on the by doing a simple internet search for “cosmetic ingredients to avoid”.
4. Use the online resources to find safer alternatives. Please note that not all the safer alternatives are completely natural, but it’s a good to check your products with these online safety databases.

Natural Product Application

There is no great mystery to applying natural cosmetics. They apply in the same manner as traditional cosmetics. If you move to a natural liquid or cream foundation you should continue to use the same application technique as before. When applying a liquid foundation always use a foundation sponge or brush. This will help you to place the foundation onto the face easily without wiping it off again at the same time. You should always use brushes to put the make up onto your face as with your fingers it can pass on bacteria and germs.

Many natural cosmetics are sold as loose mineral cosmetic powders. This form of natural cosmetic is the most pure form of cosmetic available on the market today because, in general, the formula contains just the essentials to create an effective product with a wide range of colors. To apply mineral foundation remember to use a dense bristle brush such as a Kabuki brush. Apply in a swirling or buffing motion and remember a little goes a very long way! All other natural mineral cosmetics such as blush, bronzer and eye colors should be applied with your standard cosmetic brushes. There are many variations of mineral cosmetics. Some are not so natural. Again, don’t fall for the marketing hype! As with all products labeled “natural” make sure to check the ingredient labels!

Finally, remember to clean your brushes. There can be millions of germs on a make-up brush and that can clog up the pores and cause all kinds of infections. Always clean your make up brushes and equipment regularly and take your time when applying natural cosmetics to ensure that you will end up with the best results.

Overall natural cosmetics are certainly worth switching to for the potential long term health of your skin and body. Just remember not to fall for marketing hype, read the ingredient labels and follow basic application tips and you should end up with excellent results.

Dangerous Cosmetics And Teenage Girls. Don’t Mix The Two.

Most people don’t know that there are many big brand cosmetics that contain nasty or downright dangerous ingredients. There is now a study showing the effect of dangerous cosmetics on teenage girls, that might prompt you to look for safe cosmetics next time you shop.

Our big brand cosmetics can be loaded with ingredients that aren’t safe and we ought not put on our skin. A recent study, for example, showed there was lead in over 50% of lipsticks tested.

Lead? Is it possible that we the public are unknowingly using cosmetics like lipstick that contain lead? Yes it is. It’s a sad fact that the FDA doesn’t regulate cosmetics, or for that matter skin care or anti aging products like it regulates drugs.

And when we use these products the ingredients soak in don’t they? And so they go straight into our bloodstream. When you put on that blush or rouge some of it goes into our blood.

That’s because our skin is porous and what we put onto it soaks in and ends up in our bodies rather than just on our skin. Moisturizers, for example, are rubbed in a disappear. Where do they go but into our system? Ok if they are harmless, but what if they’re not?

And there’s a new study now which suggests that there are good reason why our teenage girls should be using safe cosmetics rather than the big brand dangerous cosmetics that so many use now. Here’s a quote from the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics.

“Laboratory tests reveal adolescent girls across America are contaminated with chemicals commonly used in cosmetics and body care products.”

That’s scary. It gets worse and makes worrying reading for any parent of a teen who uses cosmetics regularly, and who doesn’t? Most in fact use more than the average woman.

A study by the Environmental Working Group has found chemicals from 4 different families of chemicals (phthalates, parabens, triclosan and musks) in the urine of young girls (between 14 and 20) who were tested in the study.

Some of these chemicals were found in the urine of every single girl tested.

And teenage girls are growing very fast, so the last thing they need is to be adding nasty chemicals to their bodies.

The chemicals tested for are considered to be hormone altering chemicals, and so it raises some questions about the implications of teenage girls using cosmetics and skin care products and also possibly acne treatments where there is a good chance they could be loading their systems with these chemicals.

No one really knows, we’re entering an unknown area and the implications for the future health and in particular hormonal and reproductive health is completely unknown.

Either way, do we want our children taking these unknown risks with common cosmetics and skincare and other personal and body care products?

That may worry you, but there is a safe alternative. There are excellent companies making safe cosmetics that are very effective, and safe and effective skin care products as well, neither of which contain any dangerous chemicals.

But these niche companies are very small, and can’t compete with the big brand names on marketing, so you won’t see their ads on TV or their products on the shelves of your local store.

But if you search you can find small companies making excellent and safe cosmetics and also safe natural skin care products that are extremely good, and better quality than the big brands.

So don’t play Russian Roulette with your daughters health. Find some top shelf natural cosmetics and natural skin care products that don’t contain dangerous chemicals.

Pearls in the dark.
natural cosmetics
A pearl is a hard object produced within the soft tissue (specifically the mantle) of a living shelled mollusc. Just like the shell of a clam, a pearl is made up of calcium carbonate in minute crystalline form, which has been deposited in concentric layers. The ideal pearl is perfectly round and smooth, but many other shapes of pearls (baroque pearls) occur. The finest quality natural pearls have been highly valued as gemstones and objects of beauty for many centuries, and because of this, the word pearl has become a metaphor for something very rare, fine, admirable, and valuable.

The most valuable pearls occur spontaneously in the wild, but they are extremely rare. These wild pearls are referred to as natural pearls. Cultured or farmed pearls from pearl oysters and freshwater mussels make up the majority of those that are currently sold. Imitation pearls are also widely sold in inexpensive jewelry, but the quality of their iridescence is usually very poor, and often, artificial pearls are easily distinguished from genuine pearls. Pearls have been harvested and cultivated primarily for use in jewelry, but in the past they were also stitched onto lavish clothing. Pearls have also been crushed and used in cosmetics, medicines, and in paint formulations.

Are Organic and Natural Cosmetics Really As Good As They Claim?

Organic and natural cosmetics usage is on the rise. As these products become big business, it is important for consumers to protect themselves against false product labeling. That is why it is essential to have a third-party certify that a product is indeed an organic or natural cosmetic product.

Natural or Organic?
In the United States, a product that claims to be a natural cosmetics product does not have to go through any government testing to put the word “natural” on their packaging. Even most chemicals can be traced back to their natural roots, so technically the term “natural” can apply to just about anything! This term has become a marketing tool to sell more seemingly natural cosmetics to unsuspecting consumers.

In order to use the term “organic” on labeling in the US, however, there are strict government regulations that must be followed. Most importantly, an organic cosmetic company must prove that the majority of its ingredients have been grown and processed according to strict, government-controlled, organic agricultural standards. Depending on whether they claim to have 100% organic, organic or “made with organic ingredients” an organic cosmetics company’s products can contain varying degrees of organic ingredients.

There are multiple regulatory agencies that can determine if a cosmetic company can call themselves “organic.” The most stringent organic cosmetics regulations actually come from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA.) Organic cosmetics that feature the USDA label on their products meet the strict ingredients and processing criteria in accordance with the USDA’s National Organic Program.

Unfortunately, it costs money to become certified organic, so many small organic cosmetic and soap companies choose to forego the pricey government certification and opt for the term “natural” to sell their products. In the end, this only serves to hurt their reputation and confuse the consumer.

Higher Standards in Europe

It is extremely important to note that European countries such as France and Germany as well as other countries like Australia already hold their natural and organic cosmetics to an even higher standard than the United States.

In Germany, for instance, only natural cosmetics companies who have proven to adhere to the strict BDIH guidelines are able to put their seal on their packaging. These guidelines ban petroleum-based, synthetic or genetically modified ingredients. They also require packaging to be ecologically conscious and prohibit any animal testing among other rules. These guidelines only apply to natural cosmetics companies, not organic ones.

The Future Of Certification

Recently, some strides have been made to hold companies responsible for mislabeling their organic and natural cosmetics when they contained non-organic and petrochemical materials. The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) publicly attacked popular companies such as Jason’s Pure Natural, Kiss My Face and Nature’s Gate Organics for using known carcinogens in their products.

Unfortunately, the landscape of certified and natural cosmetics in the United States is only going to get more uncertain in the months to come as certification agencies, industry groups and retailers implement their own regulations.

However, with the Natural Products Association launching its bid to tighten regulations in the US on natural products with what amounts to a near reflection of BDIH guidelines, there is hope for the future provided these tougher rules are adopted and supported broadly by the natural personal care products industry and its leaders such as Lavera, Dr. Bronner’s and Dr Hauschka.

At least for now though there is USDA and BDIH for the European-produced brands. No products certified by either body earned any black marks from the OCA.

Should you buy natural cosmetics? The Makeup Doctor

Smitha called me on Skype and she wanted to know what natural cosmetics to buy. I am not a big fan of natural cosmetics therefore in this online consultation I will tell you why. We will also be discussing how to apply eyeshadow on deep set eyes and how to contour a heart shaped face.

Hope these makeup consultations will help you understand the difference between real life makeup and what you see on Youtube. I find it so interesting how confused girls are nowadays because of Youtube. I feel like years ago, women were far more confident regarding how they did their makeup. This is why I think it is better to listen to a professional when it comes to your looks. I mean, watch the makeup tutorials online however you like and experiment however you like, but when it comes to technical stuff, turn to someone who applied makeup on at least 1000 women.

If you like my ideas, feel free to call me on Skype (jurecuk) and we’ll do an online consultation for all the Chickabellas to learn from it.

Don’t be fools, don’t follow makeup rules!

Just How Natural Are Natural Cosmetics?

Organic and natural cosmetics and personal care products are taking off rapidly.

The daily lifestyle for millions of North Americans and Europeans already includes organic food products, so making sure that what they absorb through their skin is equally safe, is a natural progression.

In a woman’s lifetime she will ingest some four pounds of lipstick and a similar amount of other products through the skin from personal care products annually. But, the big question, particularly here in North America, is just how natural are they?

In Europe, it’s a lot easier to have confidence as regulators have adopted a highly cautionary approach – better safe than sorry. In January 2003, the European Union decided to ban the use of chemicals that are known or strongly suspected of causing cancer, mutation or birth defects. The ban became effective in September 2004 and covers thousands of potential ingredients.

In the US, it’s more a “prove it’s harmful first approach”, so your health safety is very much in your own hands. But, at least, there is now the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) certifying organic content in cosmetics, which is a big step in the right direction. However, it’s very early days and it will be many years before there is widespread adoption in personal care products.

The “Truth” Is In The Label (mostly)
No matter how much or how little government regulation is protecting you, or not, there is one step a consumer can do and that is examine labels. Online you can find a group called “SafeCosmetics”. On their site you can mug up on the main ingredients to be avoiding, typically two of the biggest are parabens and phthalates, but there are many more.

Labels can, and often are, very difficult to read though for those whose eyesight makes tiny print a blur. Methylparaben is derived from petroleum so it is technically both natural and organic. It is also suspected as a culprit in the rising incidence of breast cancer.

The trouble is there can be substances in the products that are not listed because they are trace amounts. A recent example has been the lead found in many lipsticks. However tiny, no amount of lead should be tolerated as it is a powerful nerve toxin.

Look for Reputable Manufacturers
Look for companies dedicated to producing nothing but truly organic and natural skincare products. Look for mention of the certifying bodies that they claim their product ingredients have been subjected to such as the previously mentioned USDA, and BDIH, ECOCERT (inspects and certifies in over 80 countries) and the Soil Association which are all in Europe.

By examining the philosophies of these companies, you are more likely to be getting not only healthy and beneficial products, but that they are produced in humane and environmentally conscious facilities. After all it defeats the purpose to buy natural cosmetics produced in a factory that dumps toxins into the water.

Smart Consumers Are Healthier Consumers
Take the time to become an educated consumer. The Internet is there to provide you with all the information you could ever want on the safety of personal care products.

Fortunately, aside from the ‘Safecosmetics’ folks trying to look out for you, there is also a world class American environmental oncologist by the name of Dr. Devra Davis at the University of Pittsburgh.

She and her colleagues have done much to raise awareness of the dangers of ingredients in cosmetics and skin care products, especially those that have estrogenic effects. Their research indicates that African-American women are particularly vulnerable with unnaturally early onsets of puberty and higher rates of breast cancer and earlier onset of the disease in comparison to white Americans.

She is the author of more than 170 scientific publications and the editor of 11 books. Her latest book, The Secret History of the War on Cancer, was published in October 2007. In it, Dr. Davis details how we began fighting the wrong war, with the wrong weapons, against the wrong enemies’ legacy that persists to this day.

Remember, it’s better to be safe than sorry and for those not living in Europe it really means you have to be even more diligent because it is still very much a question of waiting ’til the horse has bolted before regulators move to ban ingredients!

How Natural Cosmetics Can Keep Your Skin Healthy

Most of the women enjoy applying different types of cosmetics in order to enhance their appearance. Many cosmetic products that are available in the market contain chemicals, which can be hazardous for your face if you use them on regular basis. Because every woman has different type of skin, the effect of these cosmetics is not the same for every woman; depending on the type of your skin these products can cause your skin to become oily, to dry, or even to break out in case if it is sensitive.
Therefore, you should consider using natural cosmetics in order to help your skin to remain as healthy as it is. Natural cosmetics cannot contain preservatives, artificial colors, herbicides, pesticides, mineral oil, solvents or synthetic chemicals. They cannot also be tested on animals. All the agriculture products and herbs that are used in natural cosmetics should be organic in nature. It is very important for any natural cosmetic product to contain at least 95% ingredients that are listed in the approved ingredients list. The remaining 5% can be salt and water that should not have to be organic.
Many manufacturers are working very hard in order to provide the products that meet the demands of the consumers. Some of the suppliers only make natural cosmetics while the others leave it on consumers to choose the one they like. With so many animal rights activists and social workers that are motivating consumers for the boycott of the products, which are tested on the animals, most manufacturers have started the implementation of the other testing procedures.
If you are unsure about any product that if it is synthetic or natural, you may always contact its manufacturer. Almost all of the cosmetic products available in the market are promoted without mentioning the ingredients used in them. Hence, it is your job to do this research.
Another important reason because of which you should find out the ingredients of your cosmetics is that several of them may cause allergic reactions and skin irritation. If you are experiencing these problems while using even your natural cosmetics then you should check its ingredients and identify what is reacting as the product may only be promoted as natural without being the one.

Advantage of regular using natural cosmetics

Health conscious folks use natural cosmetics and they advise people to switch to body lotions, hair oil and shampoos made of plant extracts. Most of the beauty products available in the market contain chemicals that are harmful for skin and hair. But green products have no such apprehensions. Made from leaves, seeds and flowers, green beauty products are safe for every skin type.

A wide range of green beauty products is available in the market and the good thing is that you could find these products in both traditional and online stores. You can visit the departmental store near your home and ask for reliable green sunscreen crème and other material. Or you can choose to shop online and save your time and money.

Chemical rich beauty care goods seem working best for skin and hair but actually they do more harm than good. First disadvantage of using chemical rich shampoo is that it removes protective covering from the hair. Second disadvantage is that it strips hair of their minerals and proteins. Third disadvantage is that it makes hair lifeless.

On the other hand using natural cosmetics would make your hair strong, healthy and shiny. Green cosmetics would enrich your skin and bring back the lost glow. Plant extracts contain protein, vitamin and nutrients available in nature. Soaps and body lotions made from plant extracts would not only clean your skin of dust and grime but also it would repair the damage tissues.

Do you know that skin breathes? Most people are unaware of the fact that skin has pores that allow fresh air to enter the skin. Fresh air inflates the skin with oxygen and in this way skin takes fresh air. Chemical rich face wash removes the dead cells from the skin and it also breaks the sensitive skin pores.

Natural cosmetics are safe for soft skin, hard skin and every skin type. People should take care when bathing their children as children’s skin is more sensitive than the adults’ skin. Ideally children should use green soap and shampoo. A large variety of child safe products is available in the market and the same products are available on online stores too.

The best part of natural cosmetics is that they are cost effective. With green beauty care goods, you get vital nutrients and since these goods come at affordable price, you save a lot of money as well.

Buying Natural Make Up And Cosmetics

Natural make up and cosmetics are making a big splash within the cosmetics industry. People are becoming more in tune with living life healthier. Consumers are making healthier choices in the items that they buy. This is the same case with makeup and cosmetics. Commercial brand products include products that are not healthy. As more and more people realize this, they seek out products that are natural and organic.

Regular cosmetics and makeup have a list of ingredients that are not considered safe for human consumption. Some of the same ingredients are used in industrial products. You can find ingredients in commercial brand cosmetics than you can also find in products such as antifreeze or industrial cleaners. These are not ingredients that should be applied to human skin.

But there are commercial lines that have some natural ingredients and some chemical ingredients. They are able to get away with this because of the current laws stipulated by the FDA. So it is very important to read the labels and understand what the product contains.

Consumers will have to do their research if they want authentically organic products. It is important to read everything presented on the label. More times than not, there will be a preservative or chemical listed. But there are places consumers can buy all natural products. A lot of these products are made by hand and only include ingredients you find in the earth. There are small boutiques and online resources where these products can be found.

Because not all products that say they are natural, are in fact natural, it is important to know what they contain. Consumers must be aware of the materials involved in the products they apply to their skin. There are many different kinds of natural products on the market in the area of make up and cosmetics. One very popular form of natural makeup are the brands made with minerals. These come in lipsticks, eyeliners and other makeup forms. They go on sheer without giving a heavily made look.

The application of the natural makeup lines is the same as regular store brand makeup. But it is important to note that natural makeup is much lighter than commercial brands. They are meant to enhance your look instead of make it up. Natural cosmetics also tend to be lighter.

The use of natural makeup dates back to ancient Egyptian times. Egyptian women used mineral makeup to enhance their beauty. They also used powdered copper ore as eye shadow and ground kohl as eyeliner. The women of ancient Greece used a charcoal and olive oil solution for eye makeup. So natural makeup is not new, it has been used for many centuries.

Natural make up and cosmetics are safer choices than commercial brands. Consumers of these products seek ingredients that will not irritate their skin or cause illness. They can be found in a variety of product lines and can be purchased off or online. Green products have many health benefits. They may be a bit more expensive than the commercial brands but a lot of consumers are willing to pay the extra money to know that they have a safer product.
